Notes

John Ridgway, who died in 1905 aged 71, was a bachelor who lived at Shipton Cottage with his brother Thomas Ridgway who also died in 1905 (see below) and presumably owned the property. They were originally from Swanbourne. They had previously kept a pub called the Builders Arms in Islington (1871 Census). The family can't be traced in the 1881 and 1891 Censuses.

John Edward Monk, originally from Tuckey Farm, married Thomas' daughter Jane Annie Ridgway in London in 1888. Elizabeth Sarah Ridgway married William Reynolds at Winslow in 1897.

The family only seems to have come to Winslow in the 1890s. Thomas appears in Kelly's Directory 1895 at The Cottage, Shipton, and must have bought it after the death of the previous occupant Thomas Woodward in 1893. He was apparently nothing to do with Thomas Ridgway, grocer at 29 High Street.
