Will of George George, corn dealer, 1905 (proved 1916)

This is the last Will and Testament of me George George  of Winslow in the County of Buckingham Corn and Hay Dealer.  I appoint my Wife Anne George and my Sons Richard William George and George Frederick George Executrix and Executors of this my Will and Trustees for the purposes hereinafter expressed and I direct that the firm of Messieurs Hearn and Hearn Solicitors of Buckingham shall act as the Solicitors for my said Executors and Trustees in obtaining Probate of this my Will and in the general winding up of my estate. I give all my plate linen china glass books pictures prints wines furniture and other household effects to my said Wife absolutely and I desire to state that it is not necessary for me to make any further provision for my said Wife as her own property is a sufficient provision for her. I devise all my real estate and I bequeath all my Securities for money Farming Stock on the Farms in my occupation Stacks of Hay and Corn whatsoever and wheresoever and all other my personal estate not hereby otherwise disposed of unto my said Trustees Upon trust that my Trustees shall sell call in and convert into money the same or such part thereof as shall not consist of money and shall with and out of the moneys produced by such sale calling in and conversion and with and out of my ready money pay my funeral and testamentary expenses and debts and shall stand possessed of the residue of the said monies In trust for all my children who being Sons have attained or shall attain the age of twenty one years or being Daughters have attained or shall attain that age or marry under that age in equal shares And I declare that the share of my Daughter Annie Alice Wife of Arthur Neville Dashwood Lang shall be held by my said Trustees In trust to pay the sum of Fifty pounds part thereof to the said Annie Alice Lang absolutely and to stand possessed of the residue of the said share In trust to invest the same and to pay the interest dividends and annual income thereof to the said Annie Alice Lang during her life and at her decease In trust (subject as hereinafter mentioned) for my other children in equal shares Provided always that it shall be lawful for my said Trustees
[p.2] annually to raise out of the Capital of the said share such sum as with the interest dividends and annual income thereof shall make up the sum of Thirty pounds and pay the same to the said Annie Alice Lang And whereas I consider that my said Son Richard William George has derived from me benefits and advantages during his tenancy of the Finmere Warren Farm to the extent of Three hundred pounds which benefits and advantages have not been derived by the other Members of my Family And whereas I have given up part of my business to my said Son George Frederick George the goodwill of which I consider to be of a value of One hundred pounds Now I hereby direct that the said Richard William George and George Frederick George shall bring the said sums of Three hundred pounds and One hundred pounds respectively into hotchpot and that no child or grandchild of mine shall take any part of the residuary trust funds without bringing into hotchpot all advances made or sums guaranteed and paid or payable by me or my said Wife Provided always that if any child of mine shall die in my lifetime leaving a child or children who shall survive me and being a Son or Sons have attained or shall attain the age of twenty one years or being a Daughter or Daughters have attained or shall attain that age or marry under that age then in every such case the last mentioned child or children (including the child or children of the said Annie Alice Lang as to the share to be directed to be held in trust for her) shall take and if more than one equally between them the share which his her or their parent would have taken of and in the residuary trust funds if such parent had survived me and attained the age of twenty one years And I declare that my Trustees may with the consent in writing of my said Wife during her life and after her decease at their own discretion raise any part or parts not exceeding together one moiety of the vested or presumptive share of any child or grandchild of mine under this my Will and apply the same for his or her advancement preferment or benefit as my Trustees shall think fit In witness whereof I  have hereunto set my hand this seventeenth day of August One thousand nine hundred and five.

This is a Codicil to the above written last Will and Testament of me George George. I revoke the appointment of my Son George Frederick George as Executor and Trustee and instead thereof appoint my Son Reginald Harry George to be an Executor and Trustee jointly with my Wife and my Son Richard William George and I direct that my Will shall be read and construed as if the name of the said Reginald Harry George had been inserted therein throughout as an Executor and Trustee instead of the name of the said George Frederick George And I declare that the share of the said George Frederick George shall be held by my Trustees In trust to invest the same [… the clauses contained in the main will making provision for Annie Alice Lang are repeated, including the annual payment of thirty pounds to George Frederick George …] In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand this 14th day of April One thousand nine hundred and six.

This is a Second Codicil to the above written last Will and Testament of me George George. I revoke the appointment of my Son Richard William George as Executor and Trustee and confirm the appointment of my Wife and my Son Reginald Harry George as Executors and Trustee of my said Will and Codicils and in all other respects I confirm my said Will and Codicil In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand this Twenty second day of August One thousand nine hundred and eight.

This is a Third Codicil to the above written last Will and Testament of me George George. Whereas I consider that my said Son Richard William George has derived from me benefits and advantages to the extent of Two hundred pounds in addition to the Three hundred pounds mentioned in the Will And whereas I consider that my said Son George Frederick George has derived from me benefits and advantages to the extent of Four hundred pounds in addition to the One hundred pounds mentioned in the Will Now I hereby direct that the said Richard William George and George Frederick George shall each bring into hotchpot the inclusive sum of Five hundred pounds In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand this Twenty third day of June One thousand nine hundred and thirteen.

On the Thirtieth day of September 1916. Probate of this Will with three Codicils was granted at Oxford to Anne George Widow the Relict and Reginald Harry George the Son, the Executors.
It is hereby certified that the foregoing is a correct Copy
Dated this Fifth day of October 1916.

BE IT KNOWN that George George of Winslow in the County of Buckingham, Corn and Hay Dealer, who at the time of his death had a fixed place of abode at Winslow aforesaid, within the district of the Counties of Oxford, Berks and Buckingham, died on the 9th day of June 1916 at Winslow aforesaid. 
AND BE IT FURTHER KNOWN  that at the date hereunder written the last will and Testament with three Codicils thereto of the said deceased was proved and registered in the District Probate Registry of His Majesty’s High Court of Justice at Oxford, and that administration of all the estate which by law devolves to and vests in the personal representative of the said deceased was granted by the aforesaid Court to Anne George of Winslow aforesaid, Widow, the Relict of the Deceased the Executor named in the said Will and Reginald Harry George of Clevedon, Medina Avenue, Newport, Isle of Wight \Millers Manager - /  the Son of the Deceased, the Executor named in the first Codicil.

Notes

George George billhead 1883George George was born at Launton in 1841 and came to Winslow from Twyford 1877.  He was apparently unconnected to the George family of 34 High Street. He lived at 10 Church Street, then at The White House (formerly Selby Villa).  He was a prominent Anglican and Conservative. He married Ann Tyrrell from Newton Purcell in 1869. Their children were:
