Will of Charles Ernest West of Winslow, gentleman, 1877 (proved 1884)

BE IT KNOWN, that at the date here underwritten, the last Will and Testament of Charles Ernest West formerly of Abingdon in the County of Berks but late of Winslow in the County of Buckingham deceased, who died on the 26th day of January 1884 at Winslow aforesaid, was proved and registered in the Principal Registry of the Probate Division of Her Majesty’s Court of Justice and that Administration of the personal estate of the said deceased was granted by the aforesaid Court to John Herbert West of No. 78 Gorse Lane Swansea in the County of Glamorgan Commercial Traveller the Brother the sole Executor named in the Will he having been first sworn well and faithfully to administer the same.
Dated the 29th of February 1884.

This is the last Will and Testament of me Charles Ernest West at present residing in Abingdon in the County of Berks Gentleman I bequeath unto Mary Davies of Sketty near Swansea Draper, the sum of one hundred pounds free from legacy duty And I direct that the said legacy shall be paid within six calendar months after my decease I give and bequeath all the residue of my personal estate whatsoever and wheresoever situate subject to the payment of my funeral and testamentary expenses and my just debts and the legacy bequeathed by this my Will unto my brother John Herbert West of 56 Oxford Street Swansea aforesaid absolutely And I appoint the said John Herbert West sole Executor of this my Will and I do hereby revoke all former Wills and declare this to be my last Will and Testament In witness whereof I have to this my Will set my hand this 13th day of June 1877  Charles Ernest West [signature]

Notes

Charles Ernest West was one of the sons of the former Winslow tanner George West (d.1864) and younger brother of Rev. Melbourne Russell West. He was born at Winslow in 1840 and died there in 1884 but his family moved to Oxford in the 1850s. In 1871 he was living in Oxford Street, Swansea with his brother John, who was then a grocer. He was a boarder at 9 Praed Street, Paddington, in 1881.
