Will of Roger West, yeoman, 1733/4

In the Name of God Amen I Roger West of Winslowe in the County of Buckingham Yeoman being Weak in Body and mind and declare my last Will and Testament in the manner following First & Principally I Recom(m)end my Soule into the hands of Almighty God my Creator trusting through the Merritts of Jesus Christ my Saviour to Obtaine a full Remission of my Sins my Body I Com(m)itt to the Earth from whence itt was Extracted to be decently Buryed at the discretion of my Executor herein after named And as for Such worldly Estate as itt hath or shall please God to Blesse me with I Give Devise and Dispose the same as followeth First I Give and Devise All and every my Coppyhold lands and Tenements lyeing in the Parish of Winslowe aforesaid and the hedges ditches Trees Mounds Fences Freeboards Com(m)ons Proffitts and Appertenances whatsoever to the Same belonging or in any wise Appertaining unto my Eldest Sonn William West and his heires and Assignes forever Alsoe I Give and Bequeath unto Richard West my Sonn that Nine Pounds which he had of mine in his hands and also Eleaven Pounds more to make the same upp Twenty Pounds which Eleaven \Pounds/ I direct shall be paid unto the said Richard West my Sonn by my Executor herein after named within Twelve months next after my death

Alsoe I Give and Bequeath unto the said Richard West my Sonn my Chest which is in the Chamber over the hall belonging to the Messuage or Tenement wherein I now dwell and alsoe my Mustard Bowl to be delivered unto him by my Executor herein after named within One month next after my death Alsoe I Give and Bequeath unto Thomas West my Sonn the Sum(m)e of Eight Pounds of lawfull mony of Greate Brittaine to be paid unto him by my Executor herein after named within Twelve months next after my death

Alsoe I Give Devise and Bequeath unto my Grandchildren Robert Shelton Sarah Shelton and William Shelton Children of my daughter Anne Shelton Tenn Pounds Cash of lawfull money of Greate Brittaine to be paid unto them by my Executor herein after named as they shall respectively Attaine the Age of One and Twenty Years But in case any or either of my said Grandchildren shall happen to die before he she or they shall have Attained the said age of One and Twenty Years then I Give Devise and Bequeath the Legacy or Legacyes of Tenn Pounds bequeathed to him her or them soe dying unto such of them as shall live to Attaine the said Age of One and Twenty Years if more than One Each of them an Equall share thereof as they shall respectively Attaine the said Age of One and Twenty Yeares and if but One of them shall happen to live to Attaine the said Age of One and Twenty Years Then all to such child att such tyme as has or shall have Attained the said Age of One and Twenty Yeares Alsoe I Give Devise and Bequeath unto Susanna Lane my Servant the Sum(m)e of Five Pounds of lawfull mony of Greate Brittaine to be paid unto her by my Executor herein after named within Two months next after my death Alsoe I Give and Bequeath unto Mary Swift the wife of Thomas Swift of Winslowe aforepaid the Sum(m)e of Tenn Shillings to be paid unto her by my Executor herein after named within One Weeke next after my death Alsoe I Give Devise and Bequeath All the Rest Residue and Remainder of my Goods Cropp Stock Chattells and Personall Estate whatsoever and wheresoever unto the said William West my Sonn He paying my debts Legacyes and Funerall Expences And I do hereby Constitute and Appoint the said William West my Sonn full and Sole Executor of this my last Will and Testament hereby Revoking all former Wills by me made and declareing this to be my last Will and Testament and none other nor otherwise In Wittnesse whereof I have hereto Sett my hand and Seale this Thirtieth day of January in the Year of our Lord One Thousand Seaven Hundred and Thirty Three

Roger West (bur. 29 March 1734) and his wife Sarah (bur. 11 Nov 1730; probably the sister of Joseph Rogers) had these children:

Roger served as churchwarden of Winslow in 1696 and constable in 1703, and bought 10 acres of land in 1697.
