Will of Jane Rush, wife of Walter Rush, 1914 (proved 1926)

This is the last Will and Testament of me Jane Rush (Wife of Walter Rush) of Winslow in the County of Buckingham  I appoint my brother George John Cook and my Nephew Charles William Cook (Son of the said George John Cook) to be the Executors and Trustees of this my Will. I devise all that my moiety of and in the Cottage outbuildings garden and premises situate in the Back Lane Winslow aforesaid now in my occupation unto my said Nephew Charles William Cook absolutely I devise the residue of my real estate (if any) and I bequeath all the personal estate to which I shall be entitled at my decease unto the said George John Cook and Charles William Cook in equal shares absolutely subject nevertheless to the payment of my just debts my funeral and testamentary expenses Lastly I revoke all other Wills or testamentary writings heretofore made by me  In witness whereof I the said Jane Rush the testatrix have hereunto set my hand this Fifth day of November One thousand nine hundred and fourteen.

Signed and declared by the above named Jane Rush the Testatrix as her last Will and Testament in the presence of us both present at the same time who in her presence and in the presence of each other have hereunto set our names as witnesses.

On the Twenty ninth day of October 1926. Probate of this Will was granted at Oxford to George John Cook the Brother and Charles William Cook the Nephew (Son of the said George John Cook) the Executors.

Dated this Second day of November 1926.

BE IT KNOWN that Jane Rush (Wife of Walter Rush) of Winslow in the County of Buckingham died on the 26th day of June 1926 at Winslow aforesaid.

AND BE IT FURTHER KNOWN  that at the date hereunder written the last will and Testament of the said deceased was proved and registered in the District Probate Registry of His Majesty’s High Court of Justice at Oxford, and that administration of all the estate which by law devolves to and vests in the personal representative of the said deceased was granted by the aforesaid Court to George John Cook the Brother and Charles William Cook the Nephew (Son of the said George John Cook) both of Thurning near Barnwell in the County of Northampton Agricultural Labourers the Executors named in the said Will.

Notes

Jane (b.1851) was the daughter of Jane Cook from Swanbourne (nee Pitkin, widow of George Cook), third wife of Samuel Rowe (1815-85). She and her brother must have inherited half-shares in the cottage in Verney Road after their mother died in 1886. The photo below shows her outside the cottage, on which see Vicarage and Verney Roads.

Jane Cook seems to have had a romantic relationship with James Roads in 1908 which ended with him being sentenced to a month's hard labour: read more. She married Walter Rush in 1913, Luton Registration District, but doesn't appear to have lived with him. She described herself as married in the 1921 Census. He could be Walter Rush of Markyate, tinsmith, aged 67 and married but living alone in 1921.
