Notes
Miss Reeves (b.1839), originally from Portsmouth, came to Winslow in 1877 to run Brook Hall School with her sister Kate Selby Ellis (who had been working there for 10 years). She was sole principal from 1885. Her mother Sarah Reeves came with her, and died in 1886. Winifred Ellis the niece was a pupil, then a teacher, and took over as principal on her aunt's death. At some point after 1899, and probably in 1900 when substantial building work was undertaken, Miss Reeves acquired from her brother-in-law A.L. Field the ownership of the property which she had previously rented.
