Notes
In the 1881 Census, Maria E. Ray, widow aged 61, owner of house property, born at Pimlico, was living at 4 Belle Vue Terrace (now 31 Station Road) with her daughter Maria aged 41, owner of house property, son-in-law William H. Ray, 45, professor of chemistry, and four grandchildren. William was briefly the proprietor of the Collegiate School in Sheep Street. Maria senior may have been the first occupant of the house, which was built in about 1877.
In 1861 Maria (already a widow, nee Baker) and her daughter were living at her brother-in-law's school, Thorn House in Ealing. Maria the daughter married her cousin who was a master there. He had taken over as head of the school by 1871. The school was still being run by William H. Ray in 1878, but appears to have closed and then re-opened under new management. In 1891, Maria junior and William were living at Warkworth, Oxon, and he had become an insurance agent.
