In, etc. 9 July in the year written above [1483] I William Balky of Wynselowe, sound of mind etc., make my will in this manner. First I bequeath my soul to almighty God and my body to be buried in the churchyard or in the parish church of Wynselowe aforesaid. Item I bequeath to the high altar 12d. Item for the necessary[?] use of the aforesaid church 6s 8d. Item I bequeath to the light at the lord's sepulchre a half-quarter of barley. Item I bequeath to the light of the blessed Mary a half-pound of wax. Item I bequeath to the light of St Anne a half-pound of wax. Item to the light of the holy cross 1 pound of wax. Item I bequeath to all the other lights to distribute, 1 pound of wax. Item I bequeath to the torches of the aforesaid church 20d. Item I bequeath to the repair of the bells 20d. Item I bequeath to the road towards Horewode on the northern side 20d. Item I bequeath to the bridge which leads towards Little Horewode 20d. Item I bequeath to the bridge which leads the road on the west side towards Estclaydon 20d. Item I bequeath the reversion of one capital candlestick of the light of the holy cross weighing 3 pounds and the reversion of another principal candlestick of the light of St Michael. Item I bequeath to the parish clerk 6d. Item I bequeath to the Rector of Claydon 12d. Item I bequeath to the parish church of Claydon aforesaid 12d. Item I bequeath to Thomas Palmer all my bed as it hangs and my best gown. Item I bequeath to John Palmer son of Walter Palmer my book. The residue indeed etc. I give and bequeath to my executor. And to this will I ordain, make and appoint Walter Palmer my executor, to dispose for my soul as seems most expedient to him. Given on the day and year written above.

It was proved on 18 October in the year written above, and he has discharge of the office.


Notes

The surname does not occur otherwise at Winslow, and the rather unusual provisions of the will may suggest that William was vicar during part of the 50 years for which no vicars' names are preserved.
