Will of Isabel Arches, 1467

Herts RO 1AR120

[translated from Latin]

In, etc. 10 June 1467 I Isabel Arches of Wynselowe, sound etc., make my will in this way. First I bequeath my soul to God, and my body to be buried in the parish churchyard of Wynselowe aforesaid. Item I bequeath to the high altar 20d. Item to the lights of the aforesaid church 40d. Item to the use of the church 6s 8d. Item to master William the chaplain 12d. Item to the parish clerk 6d. The residue etc. I give and bequeath to my executors, and William Arches my son and Margaret my daughter I ordain, make and appoint my executors to dispose, etc.

[Probate 11 Dec]

Isabel was quite well-to-do, but neither she nor her husband is mentioned in the Court Books, which finish in 1460. It is possible that her surname was not transcribed correctly in the St Albans register.
