Ralph Phippes committed trespass by ploughing in the furlong at Reeden Hadland; therefore amerced 12d.
Ralph Phippes committed the same offence by ploughing from two common baulks [liris co'i's], of which one lies at Licehill and the other at Longhedland balke etc. 12d.
Ralph Phippes overburdened the common with sheep and lambs; amerced 12d.

Richard Glenister put calves[?] [victul' for vittul'?] on the land[?] against the orders and a penalty of 12d is placed for it; therefore he forfeited 12d.

Winslow offences:

Abell Seer 6d, Edward Pleisted 6d, Richard Eldridge 6d, William Wiet 6d, Michael Walker 6d, Elizabeth Clarke[?] 6d, John Burrel 6d, Edward Kenniston 6d, Richard Rogers 6d, Nicholas Brinsall 6d, Jeremy Cutbert 6d, Richard Hodgkin 6d, Thomas Daniel 6d, John Bird 6d, John Bransford 6d, Robert Snacston 6d, Christopher King 6d and Hugh Seaton 6d are common tipplers of beer and ale and sold ale by illegal measures and broke the assize; therefore amerced.

William Lownes ploughed a baulk called "a feild Balk" in Old Milfeild furlong; therefore amerced 3s 4d.
William Lownes encroached on the high road at Crosse Lane; therefore amerced 3s 4d.
William Lownes tethered a mare with a foal in the Wheatfeild against the ordinances of the court and a penalty of 5s is placed for it; therefore forfeited 5s.
William Lownes overburdened his common with twenty sheep against the orders and a penalty of 3s 4d for each sheep; therefore he forfeited £3 6s 8d, reduced by grace to 20s.

Thomas Shilburne overburdened his common with a horse against the orders, with a penalty of 10s placed for it; therefore forfeited 10s.

John Kilby 10s, Thomas Daniel 10s, Daniel Seer 10s, William Evershaw 10s and Nicholas Brinsall 10s committed the same offence with one horse, and Robert Benbow 20s committed the same offence with two horses, and Edward Kinnaston 30s with three horses; therefore amerced.

John Kirbey overburdened his common with four cows against the orders, with a penalty of 3s 4d for each cow; therefore forfeited 13s 4d.

Daniel Seer kept two pigs unringed against the orders, and a penalty of 12d for each pig is placed for it; therefore forfeited 2s.

Robert Benboe committed the same offence; therefore forfeited 2s.

William Lea's wife 10s, Thomas Chandler 10s, William Peese 10s, Robert Hatton 10s, Richard Anson 10s, George Shaw !0s, Thomas Adams 10s, Robert Bendboe 10s and Isabel Croke 10s gathered beans before "have gleaned beanes" and a penalty of 10s is placed for it; therefore each forfeited as stated.

Thomas Benbow caused a nuisance in the highway with his "blocks"; therefore amerced 2s 6d.

John Robinson being a farmer [firmarius] in Winslow did not work at the king's highway when summoned for one day according to the form of the statute issued about it, and a penalty of 10s is placed for each day; therefore forfeited 10s.

Granborow offences:

Nicholas Walker broke the common pound and took from there his beasts which had been lawfully impounded; therefore amerced 3s 4d.

John Grace made a dunghill in the king's highway, causing a nuisance to the King's people; therefore amerced 3s 4d.

John Stevens committed the same offence on the common there and the common water was contaminated, causing a great nuisance to the inhabitants; therefore amerced 10s.

William Cook overburdened his common with one cow against the orders of the court, and a penalty of 6s 8d is placed for it; therefore forfeited 6s 8d.

John Stevens encroached on the common; therefore amerced 10s.

Robert Bowden committed the same offence at the end of his courtyard [atrii]; therefore amerced 10s.

George Rutland did not repair his part of the common pound; therefore amerced 6d.

Thomas Hale carried away saplings [arbusta] from the common against the orders of the court and a penalty of 5s is placed for it; therefore forfeited 5s.

John Thorpe and Hugh Stevens did not repair their parts of the common pound; therefore each amerced 6d, in total 12d.

Roger Wirrull tethered a mare with a foal in the Beane (field) against the orders, and a penalty of 3s 4d is placed for it; therefore forfeited 3s 4d.

Thomas Mountagu 3s 4d, Thomas Holland 3s 4d, Benedict Holland sr 3s 4d, Benedict Holland jr 3s 4d, Henry Stevens sr 3s 4d, Henry Stevens jr 3s 4d and Thomas Stevens 3s 4d committed the same offence; therefore amerced.

Little Horwood offences:

Robert Turney kept his geese against the orders of the court, and a penalty of 3s 4d for each default, and for five defaults therefore forfeited 16s 8d.

Emanuel Ward committed the same offence and for six offences; therefore he forfeited 20s.

Henry Sands esq. made a dunghill in the highway, causing a nuisance to the inhabitants; therefore amerced 12d.

Thomas Barber committed the same offence; therefore amerced 6d.

John Hopkins kept twenty sheep on the common against the orders of the court, and a penalty of 4d for each sheep is placed for it; therfore forfeited 5s 8d [sic].

The steward also recorded a fine of 10s imposed on Abraham Prentice because when he was chosen constable for Winslow for the following year he refused to perform his oath to carry out the office.

Court Baron

Robert Benbow and Elizabeth his wife surrendered a cottage in the market-place [foro] of Winslow now in the tenure of John Burrell. To the use of William Ethersey and Elizabeth his wife and the heirs of their bodies, or for want of such issue to William's heirs. Rent 9d, fine 5s.

Thomas Grace sr and Alice his wife and Thomas Grace jr and Sarah his wife surrendered 5 acres in Granborow to John Pitkin.

William Pallady surrendered a cottage in Little Horwood to his own use for his life, then to John Pallady his son.

Richard Barton and Joan his wife and John Barton and Alice his wife surrendered 3 acres in Little Horwood to Thomas Adams and Elianor his wife and Thomas' heirs.
They surrendered 5 acres to William Curtis.

Richard Stevens and William Stevens and Joyce his wife surrendered 5½ acres in Granborow to Christopher Smith.

John Mallet surrendered 3 half-acres in Little Horwood late Shedwicks to Thomas Carter.

Jonathan Shilburne and Ruth his wife surrendered half a cottage called the Rose and Crowne in Little Horwood to Prudence Turney for her life, then to Henry Dover and Katherine his wife. The surrender will be void if Prudence and Henry do not pay Jonathan £24 on 29 Sep 1640 at the dwelling-house of Peter Fige gent. in Winslow. Rent 9d, fine 5s, heriot 6s 8d.

[f.7v] William Holland died since the last court seised of 3½ acres in Granborow. Benedict Holland is his son and heir. Heriot 5s by composition.

William Miller died since the last court seised of 2 cottages and 5½ acres of land in Winslow. Ann Miller and Mary Miller are his daughters and co-heirs. Rent 22½d, fine 11s, heriot by composition 6s 8d. Fealty respited because they are infants.

Walter Grant and Bridget his wife surrendered 5 acres of land in the fields of Winslow:

To the use of Margaret Holliman widow. Rent 15d, fine 10s.

Robert Grange surrendered 2 acres in Little Horwood to John Pallady.

William Bowden surrendered 3 acres in Granborow to Thomas Bowden.

John Grace surrendered 3 acres in Granborow to Thomas Bowden and Katherine his wife and Thomas' heirs.

Richard Evans and Elizabeth his wife, late wife of Richard Gurney deceased, surrendered a cottage in Winslow in which Richard now lives. To the use of Richard Evans and Elizabeth and their heirs. Fine 5s, heriot 2s 6d.

William Bowden now deceased on his deathbed surrendered 3 acres in Granborow to John Bowden.

Robert Wallis clerk and Hester his wife surrendered a messuage containing 3 bays in Winslow now in the tenure of Robert Holt. To the use of Richard Hodgkin. Rent 13½d, fine 5s, heriot 2s 6d by composition.

Robert Benbow and Elizabeth his wife surrendered 6 acres of arable land and ley in the fields of Winslow:

To the use of Benjamin Leach. Rent 18d, fine 12s.

Robert Grange surrendered 1 acre in Little Horwood to John Barton.

Edmund Tomlin and Agnes his wife on 5 Oct 1638 surrendered by the steward 7½ acres in the fields of Shipton:

To the use of William Glenister jr, on condition that the surrender will be void if Edward pays him £86 5s at Michaelmas 1641. Rent 22½d, fine 15s.

Edmund Tomlin and Agnes his wife on 5 Oct 1638 surrendered a cottage in Shipton and 1 acre of ley in Lamas Close, Thomas Glenister south. To the use of Henry Townsend, on condition that the surrender will be void if Edmund pays him £29 at Michaelmas next at Henry's dwelling-house in Swanburne and £29 at Michaelmas 1640.

Robert Benbow on 15 May 1639 surrendered by the steward a capital messuage in Sheep street in Winslow on the northern side of the said plot [sic] with orchard, then in Robert's tenure. To the use of Valentine Fige, on condition that the surrender will be void if Robert pays him £4 on 17 Nov next and £104 on 17 May 1640 at Valentine's dwelling-house in Fleetstreet London. Valentine sought admission by Peter Fige gent. his attorney. Fine 5s.

Richard Eldredge on 7 Feb 1638/9 surrendered by the steward 10 acres of land in the fields of Winslow:

To the use of Valentine Fige gent., on condition that the surrender will be void if Richard pays him £70 (£10 annually on 10 Feb 1639/40-1645/6) at Valentine's now dwelling-house in Fleet street London. Valentine sought admission by Peter Fige his attorney. Fine 20s.

Thomas Illing and Elizabeth his wife surrendered a messuage in Little Horwood and a close of 3 acres and 10 acres to Richard Shelton. Procedure of common recovery; John Clisby brought a plea of land. All surrendered to Thomas Illing.

[f.8r] Thomas Hobbs and Mary his wife surrendered Wood Close in Little Horwood containing 4 acres to Emanuel Ward. Procedure of common recovery; Robert Hunter gent. brought a plea of land. All surrendered to Emanuel Ward.

Robert Bowden, son and heir of William Bowden deceased, according to his father's intention surrendered a "pightle" of pasture in Granborow containing 1 rood to William Bowden, another son of William deceased. Procedure of common recovery; Samuel Walker brought a plea of land. All surrendered to William Bowden.

Thomas Stevens sr died since the last court seised of 8 acres in Granborow. William Stevens is his son and heir, and sought admission.
