Militia Ballot List 1812

In August 1812 all men aged between 18 and 30 living in Cottesloe Hundred were listed for a ballot to choose who should serve in the Royal Bucks King's Own Militia, which was a home defence force but was sent to Ireland in 1813. Full text available from the Eureka Partnership. The first list, those liable for the ballot, was annotated with various exemptions. The second list shows that a high proportion of the population was already serving in one of the volunteer forces.
