At a Vestry held in the Vestry Room in the Church on Thursday the 24th day February 1859.

Present David Thomas Willis Chairman, George Cross, Samuel Burnham Dudley, William Neal, Henry Monk, William Matthews Junr, Thomas Allen, John Ingram and John Abbott.

A Rate at three pence in the pound for the repairs of the Church was proposed by Mr Samuel Burnham Dudley and seconded by Mr William Matthews and carried unanimously.

Vestry, 25 March 1859

At a General Vestry held at the Vestry Room in the Church on Friday the 25th day March 1859 pursuant to public Notice.

Present George Cross, Chairman Messrs David Thomas Willis, Henry Monk, William Neal, George Maydon, George Mayne, Thomas Allen, Jeremiah Toffield, Emanuel Roads, John Woodward, Hugh Brise, Robert Rand, Joseph Bowden, Grant King, James King, George Yeulet, Henry Wigley, Richard Allen, Henry Sellars, Daniel Grace, John Grace, John Elley, William Curtis, James Hawley, Charles Mayne, Thomas Rawlins, John Ingram and William Matthews Junr

The Accounts of the Overseers of Winslow with Shipton for the past year were produced and allowed.

The following were nominated as fit persons to serve the office of Overseer in the year ensuing vizt:
Mr Robert Rand, Mr Charles Keys, Mr John Ingram, Mr Richard Harrison, Mr John Elley, Mr John Corkett, Mr Hugh Brise, Mr George Roads

It having been determined to adopt the provisions of \an act passed in/ the 18th and 19th years of the reign of Her Majesty Queen Victoria cap 121 and for carrying he same into effect Mr John Grace proposed and Mr George Mayne seconded that the following persons be and form a Committee to be called “The Nuisances Removal Committee” namely
Mr David T. Willis, Mr George Cross, Mr William Neal, Mr George Mayne, Mr James Hawley, Mr Joseph Bowden, Mr James King, Mr William Matthews, Mr John Grace, Mr Thomas Allen, Mr George Maydon, Mr Robert Rand.

It was proposed by Mr Henry Monk and seconded by Mr James King that the above Committee have the management of the Town pumps and wells and carried unanimously.

It was proposed by Mr James King and seconded by Mr Wm Neal that the Committee ascertain what sum of money they can raise by subscription towards sinking the town wells, in order to obtain a sufficient supply of water, and report thereon at the Vestry to be held in Easter week, at which vestry such measures as may be deemed expedient will be taken to meet any deficiency in the amount required for the above purpose.

The Accounts of the Surveyors of Winslow for the past year were produced and allowed.

The Accounts of the Surveyors of Shipton for the past year were also produced and allowed.

Edward William Selby Lowndes Esquire Messrs Henry Monk and William John Jones were nominated to be Surveyors of Winslow for the current year.

Messrs John Woodward and Robert Rand were nominated to be Surveyors of Shipton for the current year.

Messrs George Mayne and Daniel Grace were nominated Guardians for the year ensuing.

Vestry, 28 April 1859

At a Vestry held in the Vestry Room of the Church on Thursday the 28th day April 1859 pursuant to public notice for that purpose given.

Present The Revd W.W. McCreight Chairman Messrs David Thomas Willis George Cross, George Maydon, Charles Mayne, George Mayne, John Ingram, William Neal, Henry Monk, James Hawley and John Grace.

The Accounts of the Churchwardens for the past year were produced and allowed.

The Revd W.W. McCreight appointed Mr George Cross to be Churchwarden on his behalf for the year ensuing and was duly elected.

Mr Henry Monk proposed and Mr James Hawley seconded that Mr John Curtis be Churchwarden for the Parish for the year ensuing and was thereupon duly elected.

It was proposed by Mr James Hawley and seconded by Mr William Neal that Alfred Barton be requested to give Mr French proper Notice to quit and give up possession the room over the cage, so that in future the same may be used for holding Vestry Meetings &c resolved unanimously.

It was proposed by Mr Neal and seconded by Mr Cross that the persons present at this Vestry with the Revd John Fogg and Messrs Samuel Burnham Dudley and Joshua Lewin French should form a Committee to take measures for     the better protection of the Churchyard and to prepare plans and submit same to a Vestry to be convened for that purpose on Monday the 9th day of May next at the National School Room.

Vestry, 24 May 1859

At a Vestry held in the Vestry Room of the Church on Tuesday the 24th day May 1859 pursuant to public Notice for that purpose given.

Present The Revd W.W. McCreight Chairman Messrs David T. Willis, Samuel B. Dudley, Henry Monk, Willm Neal, John St Thos Wynter, J.L. French, George Cross, James King, James Hawley, John Woodward, John Morgan, Wm Matthews Revd John Fogg, John Ingram, John Grace, Rd Harrison, Joseph Grace, and Wm Kirby.

Proposals for improving the state of the Churchyard and the best mode of effecting the same were submitted to the Parishioners for their approval, and it was eventually agreed that the expense should be defrayed by voluntary contributions and not by a Rate.

Resolved that a Committee Meeting be held at the National School Room on Tuesday the 31st instant at 7 o’clock P.M. to receive the report of the collectors of the subscriptions at which meeting any subscriber or Ratepayer will be admitted.

Vestry, 4 Aug 1859

Winslow Union
County of Buckingham

At a Meeting of the Ratepayers of the said Parish and Owners of property therein entitled to vote pursuant to the provisions of an Act passed in the 4th and 5th years of the reign of his late Majesty King William IV intituled “An Act for the amendment and better administration of the laws relating to the Poor in England and Wales” held at the Vestry Room in the Church in the said Parish on Thursday the fourth day of August 1859 pursuant to notice of such meeting duly given.

John Grace, Churchwarden, Chairman.

It was resolved that this meeting do consent to the Guardians of the Poor of Winslow Union selling and disposing of the sum of £44. 2. 4 Stock in the three per cent consolidated three per cent Bank Annuities belonging to this parish and applying the produce thereof in part discharge in the sum of £79. 15 agreed to be paid to Jeremiah Tofield for sinking the public Wells and erecting certain pumps in this parish in such manner and subject to such rules orders and regulations as the Poor Law Board shall in that behalf issue.

The above Resolution was carried unanimously.

Vestry, 29 Sep 1859

At a General Vestry held in the Vestry Room of the Church on Thursday the 29th day September 1859 pursuant to public notice for that purpose given.

Present George Cross, Chairman Messrs J.L. French, G. Maydon, J. Ingram, George Mayne, John Grace, W. Matthews, D. T. Willis, Wm Kirby, Daniel Wood, T. Allen, J. Elley, Richd Gibbs, & John Fogg.

Proposed by Mr George Mayne and seconded by Mr R. Gibbs that it would be desirable for the Trees, between the Churchyard wall and the Turnpike road; to be taken down, and that William Selby Lowndes Esquire be solicited to have them removed, and Resolved unanimously.

Proposed by Mr George Grace and seconded by Mr John Ingram that a row of Lime Trees be planted inside the new wall and carried unanimously.

Proposed by Mr George Grace and seconded by Mr David Thomas Willis that Mr Tibbetts be sent for to inspect the pump on the Market Square and report as to the best means of making it more effective.

Messrs Allen and Matthews having produced an account for the extras to be allowed Mr Jeremiah Tofield beyond his contract for sinking wells and erecting pumps  - also of deductions to be made thereupon and charges on him for materials shewing a balance of £5. 1. 5 due to him. It was resolved that he should be paid that sum in addition to his original contract.
